  3. Having a one year old has certainly limited the hunting time this spring but was able to slip out this morning and knock one down. Knew there was a good one in this area but I could not locate him while roosting last night. Turns out he was only 75 yards from where they normally roost but he was tight lipped. We got out early and hoped we could strike him early enough to get all the camera gear dialed in. Well we found him off the field down in the swamp and got everything setup perfect. But as the old ones like to do he had his mind made up he wasn’t coming any closer. After about an hour of back and forth we decided to leave all the gear and decoys and close the distance deeper into the swamp. We setup right next to some standing water and gobbled at him and he sounded off close. This time I saw him just passed an huge old blow down that was keeping him from getting to us as there was water on either side and that was why he was going back and forth. The old 870 barked and another one in the truck. And of course he flopped into the water and looks like a drown rat. Didn’t get any footage today but glad to be on the board. Best of luck everyone. 10” beard 1 1/4 spurs 22.5lbs
  4. Nice. Glad you are seeing a good amount.
  5. Not much of a chance https://www.njwoodsandwater.com/forums/topic/64779-06112023-coyote-grabs-a-turkey-poult
  6. I've caught on swimmers when. Bass were blowing up through bunker schools but couldn't get them to touch a snagged bunker. Why because they wanted them on the surface or very close to it. If you have bunker jumping out of water while being chased a pencil will be deadly. I have seen plug guys on beach and boat outfish bait guys with the exception of cold water in early season. The reason guys say only live bait when they are on bunker is because they don't give other methods the chance. Time of day can effect what colors they are hitting. I've been standing next to guys throwing the same plug ie sp minnow only difference is color and say black n blue is getting hit and yellow is not once the yellow guy switches to black n blue he's on. Same goes for trolling Chartreuse may be the ticket but if your running white you get no takers
  7. Today
  8. Ask Hammer. He know everything!
  9. Mono rig is nothing like a spinning reel or bait caster. It is a fly rod and fly reel with fly line and a very long leader. I do not use my mono rig like a euro nymph rod . I use just like a fly rod Drys ,wets ,nymphs. streamers I just, feel your more connected and hook set is much better. No sag from fly line. Don't get me wrong, I still use fly line too . I also make my own leaders 60 20 20 rule . So it would be 5 ft 2 ft 2 ft. you must reduce leader down in size .I still use my 9 foot rods . We all high stick at times depending on river or stream. There is no bad way to fish. To each his own .I should say As long as it is legal.
  10. They got smarter this year and ran straight out of Sussex and down toward @mazzgolf!
  11. I think you and that ravin guy should do a ten bass challenge. If anyone wants in I will take all the action. But I know where my money is going
  12. I noticed a few Jakes in 21 22 had more 23 I had 3 3 5 and 6 at different spots this year I thought would be amazing. I have 3 3 and 5 that I know of. Didn’t hit the 4th spot yet. I don’t have many adults I don’t have many hens I didn’t see many poults last summer I was thinking today that maybe once the chicks hatch the male chicks have a higher survival rate than the hens maybe they’re a little bigger may be there a little faster everywhere that I knew there were birds last year there’s a lot of jakes and few or no hens so far this season what the heck happened to all of the jakes from last spring. Survival rate must be lower than we think
  13. Which for Mike is worse than losing his health.
  14. It is really amazing to me how these turkeys can pinpoint exactly where you’re calling from I heard two gobbles at 5:44 I set up on them at 551. I called to them at 555. Got a triple gobble. I waited three minutes I called again I didn’t hear anything called At 6. They triple gobble I gave a few soft clucks at 602. They flew out at 603. ( they were on the bottom of the hill I thought they were already on the ground). I saw them fly down about 90 yards away about 10 seconds after they hit the ground I gave a couple more clucks. They walked right to me. I didn’t say a work. At about 59 they triple gobbled. Wide open hardwoods. They then walked right to me. They where 7 and 8 and 9 yards away At that point they were frantically looking all around and they were clucking from about 15 yards in. Pacing back-and-forth looking all around for a couple minutes then they circled behind me when they got about 20 yards behind me they triple gobbled again and then they walked off and then I snuck out of there. I don’t wana shoot a jake. about a mile away I saw three hens in a field I went to my next spot as I was pulling in the driveway there was a gobbler all fannedout on the shoulder of the road 30 yds up from the driveway I park the truck snuck out called to him he gobbled and ran at me but he must’ve either seen me or didn’t like the car that close because he came to like 40 Gobbled. So loud I could hear the feathers vibrating. Then didn’t call anymore. I never saw him but then he vanished. next 3 spots. Nothing got very hot and humid fast. Windy to. I miss last weeks weather
  15. Very lightly used 1100 12 ga see pictures located in Livingston ffl on buyer $750.00
  16. No your missing the point . When bass are on the feed , eating bunker . they will readily eat anything that mimics that bunker also
  17. Mine are always 72.5 inches. Lucky I guess.
  18. MGHUNTER66 only uses mop flies, as he says they are the most traditional fly you can use.
