  6. I used to fish there a lot. Awesome striper spot and Oyster Bay is beautiful, but far from NJ across NYC traffic. In all my experience at Bayville, every poacher I've encountered has been an immigrant from Latin America. And just about every one I've confronted argued baldfacedly that anything they catch goes in the pot. It gets truly sick there. When I was younger I sometimes took it on myself to chuck their illegal fish back into the water. Older and more mellow and listening to my wife, Ive stopped. But the scene at that beautiful spot with plentiful stripers and lotta blues later on turns my stomach. The crazy thing is how clueless--rather then straight up poachers-- a few of the new arrivals are. I once found two guys cast netting schoolies and porgies. When I explained im Spanish, they stopped immediately and returned the fish, no problem. Seemed genuinely bummed and shocked, and spoke no English. They hung out and talked fishing for a long time. They seemed to be, unlike many other guys there , genuinely decent people who just didn't know. To add to the Human negativity of Bayville, there's also an insular nastiness to a big group of the locals. They always treat me great because I'm large, ethnically similar to them, and wear waders (rather then roasting my fish and leaving behind bottles and pampers). So I get to hear their honest, twisted views of the world. It's not just a reaction to poachers. I think it's a Long Island thing. A few years ago a poacher got his line stuck with a big weight tied to his overweight braid on a white rod and clunky reel. After yanking hard the weight shot back and killed him w/ a blow between the eyes I haven't been out there in like two years but somehow I woke up today thinking of catching the outgoing some night this week Rupert Murdoch, Billy Joel, and Hannity used to/do have houses nearby. I'd be a liar if I were to say I'm not tempted to leave some fish bones, pampers and corona bottles for hannity

  14. So here it goes for my excuse. I usually fish the same 1.5 mile section and always did very well. I’ve gone out 3 times maybe about 8 hours total and have only caught 6 this year. I usually hit it within 2 days of stocking. But this year has been different. In my limited experience the water levels have been great I just feel the water flows way faster since the dam removal. So that’s my excuse, the dam removal is now offering better flows and fish have more area now that is suitable for them vs the typical holes or stretch’s that did have good flows. The area I always did my best I haven’t even got a nibble on. However my one spot now that is more scenic has been the best producer so that’s a plus. I talked to a few guys fishing it and They said the same. Anyone else notice this?

Another great event and so many amazing kids involved with this. We spent the day in Morristown yesterday very long day kids physically beat parents mentality lol. Bugs went home with gold in both her events taking the belt for no ghee and gold metal for ghee. The heart these kids have is outstanding, shaking hands before each fight and hugging and congratulating each other after. Hopefully this is hope that we have a future.
  19. Not sure if they were shooting turkeys….& not sure if rifles are legal for spring season….but it sounded near our property n cud have been poachers.
