NJ Deer baiting 2022-2023 season?

A friend of mine works in a sporting goods store. He told me Fish and Game are considering outlawing baiting for deer in 2022. Has anyone else heard about this? If it is true I imagine it is because of EHD.

Farmers selling corn bait will get hurt. I guess they will have to consider other options.

More than likely rumors .  Not in the game proposals from what I've herd..  Unless cwd makes an appearance in nj

We have had EHD kill off deer off and on for decades... if that was the reason why the state would ban bait, they would have done it a long time ago.

What he might be hearing about is the state has plans to potentially ban baiting (among other things) if CWD is found in the state. It's part of the CWD Response Plan they published in 2013... baiting could be banned in the "Disease Containment Area " where CWD was detected. But that is if CWD is detected, not EHD.

If state is concerned about deer numbers they would get rid of unlimited doe harvest

Only way they will outlaw bait in NJ is is CWD is found , and it would surprise me if they only stop it in that area .

farmers are getting rich selling deer bait .

and NJ auto insurers want them all gone .

Wouldn’t stop the backyard hunters it’s too far gone. Spread of EHD has nothing to do with baiting. CWD may.
