WYOMING ELK HUNT (UPDATE)

Recommended Posts

Day 4 October 16th day 2 of hunt.

So day 2 we went back to the same morning spot from the day before and hunted there all day.  Let me just say it was absolutely amazing. We saw over 300 elk. We made 3 stalks all successfully and passed on 3 good bulls. It’s unreal when you have elk all around you bugling, mating and chasing.  The last stalk was fast and we where losing lite. We where pretty sure it was an elk we wanted to shoot but, things happened fast so I held off knowing I still had 3 days left.  We put a lot of miles on our feet the second day. When the elk are screaming you are chasing.

Is this like Ground Hog Day? Seems I’ve read this post before

Day 5 October 17th 3rd day of hunt

Day 3 we tried a new spot but, the wind was howling near 40 mph and we only caught a glimpse of 1 good bull.

Late morning we went back to where we were the night before to see if we could locate the bull elk we saw at last lite and sure enough as soon as we put the spotting scope on the mountain there he was. He was with about 20 cows and 7 satellite bulls.

We watched him for about 3 hours until he was in a spot we felt we could do a successful stalk.

So it was one of the most amazing hunts I have been On. A lot of hiking, a lot of patience and god it was so much fun. I met a lot of great guys. My guide Jamie and Assistant guide Chris where amazing hunters thanks to those guys. Without them trust me I would not have an elk. I got to pull the trigger and take home a beautiful animal but, it’s as much theirs as it is mine. I am very grateful.

The next 2 days I  brought my elk to the butcher and they took care of meat, cape, horns and it will be shipped to my house in a freezer truck.

We hung out at camp relaxed and even did some trapping and skinning in the cabin.
