Catch and release opener??

is this a new annual thing now??  Did I miss something??  

I remember last yr there was something like this to get people outdoors during the Kung Flu Plandemic....but didn’t know it was going to be an annual thing??

Can youths keep a trout??  I have always been a big proponent for giving youths the week prior to the regular opener so they have a chance at getting hooked on fishing. 
 

I probably won’t go to catch n release stockies....unless kids wana go.....I will wait til I can eat em!!

Eating stockers is like eating cardboard .

let them eat some bugs for awhile IMO they taste a lot better .

I like that the fish will get pushed all over for those 9 days . Last year seemed to still be a lot of fish around later into the season .

My musky lures are way bigger than the trout that people catch.

I’ll go after work regardless and fish til dark.  See if we can have some fun.  I fished hacklebarny last year and needless to say there were groups of people down there keeping fish that were not supposed to be kept.  That’s the only thing that sucks is that we follow the rules and then when it’s time for the catch and keep the illegals have fished out all the waters.  They also don’t know the concept of a limit either.

For me personally...NO.

My son went out this past Saturday afternoon...while I slaved doing honey do list stuff..

He fly fished a stream...catch and release...hammered them...yeah, I'm done with the put and take thing.

Scary thing is..he's 6-2 and was 210lb playing lacrosse at UDel...now 185lbs..no strength loss...he can hump a mtn...heck..he packed out his own elk this past fall. That's my boy!

I planned to go out and had the day off but canceled that. Looks like heavy rain and cold temps. They will be spread out nicely after being in the rivers already in addition to getting a few inches of rain.

heavy rains and flooded rivers are the best after stockings spreads them out instead of sitting in the community pool.

Early season I fish for dinner.  They are delicious!  Have them for dinner and lunch many days.

I'll wait until I can keep a few for the smoker.  I've been catch and release striper fishing almost daily and they're a little bigger than the stockers.

I will take the kids and let them learn a little more... I will fish too but, I will walk pretty far back and explore some new pools and areas.  I rarely keep anything anymore I enjoy just trying to catch a breeder every now and then...

. Between the 30 mph plus winds and ice and snow in NY  waiting a day or so for better fishing conditions is smart. The trout will still be there waiting when it's 50- 60 degrees out.
