Maine deer drives(illegal why?)

I am not interested in discussing pros and cons of deer drives. Does anyone know the genesis of what/when and why it is not allowed in Maine or any other state for that matter? Thanks!

I’m not sure either, but I’ve always been surprised by what is legal or not in other states. I remember meeting my wife’s uncle from SC and he couldn’t believe we don’t use dogs to run deer. Another buddy from PA is always hyper critical of any NJ hunter that hunts deer over bait. Says it’s “not hunting”. Heck, we have many here that agree with ancient blue laws that don’t allow us to hunt Sundays here in NJ. There are all sorts of rules and traditions that are directly opposed to much of what we find normal when you go to other states.

The same reason you won't see antler restrictions in Maine, because they are smarter than the rest of us.

Not sure it’s a safety thing Zip, there’s one deer and two people every ten miles up there, WTF would they be keeping safe?!!!😂

Again, not looking for opinions. I looking to learn WHY (their logic) Maine SPECIFICALLY outlawed drives. Was it a vote, tradition, ecological, political etc.

I couldn’t find anything pertaining to the history of the regulation, only that it’s not allowed if you have four or more persons driving deer.

I think so..

Because it’s traditionally a “deer tracking” states and those methods do not mingle well.
