need prayers for the wife

Thanks for the prayers and well-wishes everyone!

Someone did mentioned earlier this would be the case - yes, I really am amazed soooo many other people have gone through this (not only you all mentioning all your experiences, but my wife keeps finding out about a bunch of people she knows who went through it).

We did get to meet with a surgeon today (though I had to go wait outside when she had to go for some pre-surgery testing afterwards - corona restrictions didn't allow non-patients to be in the pre-surgery testing center!). Cancer is stage 1, and should be treatable. Obviously, we'll know more as we go along and more test results come in. Radiation is definitely in the cards, not known yet if she'll need chemo. We're both upbeat (as much as can be).

Gonna try to live life as normally as can be and be positive and optimistic. Of course, hard to do when you are in corona-lockdown and dealing with cancer in the family at the same time. But - prognosis is not dire; if all things go as we hope, all treatments should be done by late fall.

I'll be dreaming of getting out a few mornings for turkey hunting just for some peace and solace, at least until I have to start shuttling her to the daily radiation treatments which probably start sometime in mid- to late-May if everything goes according to schedule.

I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone's turkey posts next month ... and maybe even I will have a Mazz-hunting story to post (the good kind of story, not the "I did something stupid" kind);)

  • 3 weeks later...

Some of my NJW&W friends were asking about it, so I'll post here.

She had the operation today - we just got home and she is resting right now. A little groggy from the anesthesia and some discomfort but overall she's OK.  I was not allowed in the building (corona precautions), so I literally had to drop her off at the curb this morning, and then went back and picked her up at the same curb this evening. So she had to go through it all by herself, but she handled it like a trooper.

Doctor said he was very happy with the results. Only had to take out two lymph nodes (which I think is a good thing). We'll know the test results from those lymph nodes by the time she has her follow up appointment. Other tests show she is not "triple-negative" which I've learned is a good thing. She was told she will need radiation but NOT chemo, just some "hormone therapy" for the next several years. That's all I know; I plan on asking a lot of questions about what all this means at the follow up visit next week.

I think, all things considered (it IS cancer, after all), it seems to be one of the best prognoses we could have wished for.

Thanks for the prayers!

(Now maybe I can allow myself to look forward to some turkey hunting in a couple weeks!)

Very good to hear, prayers will continue. You absolutely need a few mornings in the woods watching the sun come up chasing turkeys. If your wife needs you at home, the turkeys can wait.
