I gave up on Cabelas years ago when they would bring in decent stuff not manufactured by them to sell and then re-engineer it and have it made in China as a cheap knock off, then slowly raise the price of the product they did not produce to make their product look better.

I also read their plans for when they open a store how to destroy the mom and pop stores within the first year (within 50 miles) by opening at a strategic time and have sales sometimes below cost for a period of time.  This was part of a 5 year plan that was very detailed, including raising rent of tenants, etc.

I still enjoy a ride to Cabelas now and then, while all are correct that inventory is not what it used to be, but they are still the biggest show in town.

I can't even remember the last time I went to Cabelas. It was nice the first time I went but after that it got boring. Haven't bought anything from them in a very long time either. I think the last thing I bought might've been ammo via the internet and that was probably 5+ years ago

I was thinking, since it's going to rain, of take a run out to Hamburg tomorrow to get boots with my gift cards before they take the winter boots off the shelf.  There weren't many boots last time I went, but that was in the summer, and the salesman said they didn't have them out yet.  It was mostly hiking stuff.  Boots are one thing I don't want to buy without trying them on.  I need to tell the family not to get me cabelas gift cards any longer.

Thats a good idea I have a bunch of gift cards and could also use a new pair of boots before they go off sale.

I stop by once a year to look for powder and primers usually after I leave the harrisburg outdoor show.

I agree with you all about Bass Pro. Did you know that you cannot order ammo from them online and have it shipped to your house? I tried ordering 308 ammo and they can't do it (neither online nor telephone order). So now I'm at a crossroads with this. I have a Cabela's credit card that I get free money in either Bass Pro or Cabela's. Because of this, I've been able to buy 3 guns using my free money without dipping into my pocket. But this is just getting out of hand.

Amazon will not be there for us when the time comes to get into the trenches.

Amazon at the drop of a hat could say they are not selling anything hunting related - no knives, broadheads, etc..

I do not shop on Amazon for much in the way of hunting.

Clothes - Cabelas and bigcamo.com (I am a husky man trapped in a fat body)

Hunting supplies - cabelas, Tanner's, and Bob & AJ's

FPC  - "Without either the first or second amendment, we would have no liberty; the first allows us to find out what's happening, the second allows us to do something about it! The second will be taken away first, followed by the first and then the rest of our freedoms." - Andrew Ford
