Go to toyota dealership for oil change,  rotate tires .  Service advisor comes out and says technican highly recommends you changing your spark plugs for $799.!  Really? Is my response, my plugs where just changed at 100,000 miles and I only have 115,000 miles now!!!!

I asked to speak to technician who recommend this service,  he was on lunch break unable to speak to me.

My buddy was a service advisor for a couple different dealers for about 10 years.   Made most his money on commission by selling things that weren’t necessary but should do while we are in there type of bs.  This guy I wouldn’t trust to change a tail light.

Funny you mention "tail light". I was at a dealer once for warranty work. While I was there, I was told a light was out and if I wanted it replaced. Every 20 minutes, someone else was told the same thing. A little suspicious don't you think?

True but it depends on the locale!!!

My wife gets a video recording of the recommendation from the dealer. It’s actually the technician recording himself as he inspects the car then it’s emailed and sent to her phone. They are very very honest.

If you walked out with a set of keys you lost. No one walks out with the dealer losing money.  Any issue I have had with vehicles still under warranty (with the exception of 2) was solved through local mechanics and not dealers.

The technician didn't recommend it. It was definitely the service advisor. Their job is to sell the services and get the bill as high as possible.
