What’s a good starter 22?

What’s a good simple 22 with iron sights for a kid that’s just getting into shooting?

I would look at a savage bolt action with a magazine. Not tube feed.

I was thinking a Ruger M22 but is there something comparable that’s not as expensive ?

Why not the Ruger 10/22?

I’d say a bolt or pump  have my 7 year old shooting a handful of my 22’s.

she started with pellet and BB guns though.

I think the act of physical loading and unload the gun helps develop good gun handling habits. In both safety and marksmanship.  The 10/22 with the side ejection port can make that more difficult.

cant beat a 10/22 or a henry. henry will shoot both longs and shorts

Ruger American. 22, they make a youth model.  They also use the same magazines as the 10/22
