Work has begun on the Chevelle/Update

Got in 6 more hours today and started the right side quarter. The fender extension was a bear to get out and the outer wheel well was similar after cutting out where we needed to..

Fit in both new parts and clamped them in temporarily, after we welded in new metal inside the inner wheel well and trunk area..

Got a lot accomplished today and also cut the quarter to fit. (After measuring and checking it at least 50 times) Will work on it again soon when time allows.

Some pics from today attached below.

  • 2 weeks later...

Lots of cutting, sanding, fabricating, welding, massaging parts, etc. over the last 2 days. A ton of behind the scene structural work was completed as well.

Another 15 hours spent alone on the passenger side quarter panel and trunk.

Welded in the new trunk extension and outer wheel well and replaced lots of rusted metal with new cut pieces.

Weld thru spray, zero rust paint, seam sealer, metal-2-metal sealer, all used among other items that we are going though quickly. Painted underneath the car's rear, as we are putting the gas tank back in soon. Prepped the quarter for welding it on as well...

Fit, refit and massaged the quarter dozens of times before temporarily attaching with panel clips. Will be welded together next week when we can work on it again.

Welding is actually getting to be fun, time consuming but fun. A welder is something I may want to look to get one day for the garage...Just a couple pics attached below of the last 2 days work on the Chevelle...

Got in another 7 solid hours today on the Chevelle.

Panel clipped in the passenger side quarter skin and got the body line squared away and lined up. Tack welded the quarter on and secured it.

Lifted the car off the ground completely and was able to finish the prep under the gas tank.  Replaced all the fuel lines with new ones. Inspected the brake lines which all appeared to be in order, reinstalled the tank, blew out the fuel lines and fired her up.

Cannot wait to resume working on it. Some pics attached below.
