2023 NJW&W Flukeathon on Big Mohawk

Event details

Captain Greg Hueth reached out and asked if "we" would be interested again this year, so he could pencil us in.
No money collected as of yet, but same as last year, we should limit it to 30 fares.
August 9th is the date we are down for in his book.

Please RSVP!

2'-4' is not that bad. I rather have a fast drift over no drift

Agree.. hope the mates do their job for the green horns, give em enough lead the hold bottom, and STOP letting out so much line underneath the boat to the other guys for tangles.

Guy spoke with Greg Hueth just now. He is monitoring weather for us.  He is leaning toward a later start to get us more time in better conditions. POSSIBLE departure time at 8am now but we will confirm TOMORROW the day before.       As of now it's still 6am but it may change.

Better bring some heavy lead.

I disliked it 6-8 Oz was unproductive for me. Thinking back maybe my dropper line was too short 10-12 inch, perhaps 20 inch would keep the bait above there eyes.

guys - please monitor this closely, I will be getting an update from the BM soon.  I am thinking he will want a later start, like 8am but waiting to see.   I don't think it's going to be horrific conditions - at least we will have a drift.  Offshore/deeper water may need heavy lead but hoping we can fish 6 oz or less all day.

There is also the remote possibility of a re-schedule

It’s fishable in your boat tomorrow .

will not be an issue for a party boat . Day gets better all through the afternoon

hard west in early am is still super fishable inside 3 miles .

‘Axel , long branch , red church , rocks , snake are easily fished in those conditions

.

Use a chicken rig instead of a bucktail  set up .

then you can just walk the heavy sinker

hell yeah I would go fish stripers or fluke in hard west winds in my boat. But 27mph gusts on those big party boats will be pushing the drift over 2mph I think?   I would put out my largest drift sock, but they don't do that

If he is inside of 3 miles the land blocks 90% of that wind .

a PB already drifts slower than you do because of its size

It is official - 8am start.  Please be careful boarding as the boat lines are long and the sign says "BOARD AT YOUR OWN RISK".   This is for the early birds that beat the crew there.

Boat should return between 3 and 4 pm.

One other item of note - I thought boat was 3,000 same as last year, but it's $3,200.    I will be out $200 bucks so if anyone wishes to donate $5 to me would be appreciated.

I gave $1,000 deposit, and have $2,000 cash plus $600 tip. Again - based on $3,000 not $3,200.

Mates will collect $20 a person for POOL - 300/200/100 awarded.

If you win - please be sure to toss a little extra to mates.

thanks and see you tomorrow!
