Bonefish In Aruba finally

     My wife and I have been to Aruba a few times over the past 5 years. Great place to go if you like relaxing and the beach but not known for its fishing. So I usually bring a rod and check around and fish a little. Have caught a couple snook before but no bonefish. Last time I was there I found and saw a couple of bonefish. But no luck. 
    So this year I really wanted to try more for them. I usually wake up early every day so I go fish while the wife sleeps. Wind was blowing pretty good the first two days there with the 2nd day a tropical storm hit in the morning (crazy storm). Day 3 after the storm there was no wind and I had my chance to check the flats. Ended up seeing maybe 3-4 bonefish and I got a good cast on one. It instantly took off and I felt the hit. Hook set and he took off taking probably 80 plus yards of line after a few minutes I worked him back and landed him. Beautiful fish which was almost 26” and thick. I’ve only caught a couple bonefish ever and this is by far the biggest. 
    Was a great trip/vacation with the bonefish being the highlight for me. Learn little by little every time going.

Been there probably 5 times. This was the latest in the year we have gone and was the hottest. Almost never seen rain but a tropical storm hit the one morning.

Also while I’m on the beach to swim I decided to bring  a 20” ice fishing rod and play catching pompono, Irish porgy’s and small bonefish. Fun using shad darts

Nothing better than spotting and stalking bonefish and getting a hookup. It’s sort of like hunting - but fishing and no fish pound for pound fight better. Congrats - that was a real good one. There are spots in world you can catch 100 a day but they will not be close to that size. I remember seeing one eating conch scraps off my boat dock in Abaco - thought it was a 3’ barracuda and when I realized it was a giant bonefish it spooked.
