1 st Gen Rebuild Update

Recommended Posts

My son and I began this project May of 2021 and it’s had a bit of a slow down as life has a way of doing that to our plans … but here’s some of what has been done ; repaired some electrical lighting, drivers window regulator, tailgate handle and actuator linkage, new rear view mirrors , removed the bed , painted the chassis, complete rear brakes , new E brake cables , vacuum booster and master cylinder , had ABS valve rebuilt by Cardone , stainless brake lines , stainless fuel lines & fuel pump , valve covers , tune up , ignition coil & I’m sure there’s more crap but u get the idea . Once rear portion is complete we’ll be doing the front hopefully it’ll be road ready by spring 🤞🏻

What year truck , motor ?

1990, 360 gaser , auto , 4:10s Dana 60 in rear and 44 up front . Body is clean with no rust which it’s rare .. all mechanicals are being changed cause I’d rather do it all up front instead of patch work . I want my son as safe as possible .

Awesome. Father son project is great. Me and my son are bringing my 81 z28 back to life. Great project for him. He’s a senior in high school. Captain of his baseball team. Amazing pitcher and can play any other position on the field. When he was at the age to get him into hunting , me and my wife owned a bait and tackle shop and I didn’t spend the time with him in the woods. He has no interest in hunting and that’s ok. He helps me drag

deer out of the woods. So now he’s all about  the camaro. He’s going through girl friend issues and I’m just trying to get his mind on something. So the camaro makes him happy. We got it running after 2 yrs of sitting. He’s loving life right now.

Update :

Rear portion of the truck is complete and now we’re on to the front . Brake lines, master cylinder , ball joints , leaf springs, shocks , brakes (calipers, hoses and pads ) will all be replaced as well as painting . We may change axle u joints since we’re all the way in there and not to spend the extra 30 bucks would be foolish . We got truck running after tank was cleaned and new fuel lines , filter and pump installed .… nice to hear the old girl run.

I've got an engine that was said to be good and ready to go, pulled the drain plug to find 2.5 gallons of water in the belly lol. Got it for free now and it is still free cylinders not frozen, poured a quart of oil down the plug holes and it hasn't hit the belly yet fingers crossed just a blown head gasket and not a cracked block.

Not a complete a$$ hole just one of the dingle berries that hang off it.

He’s an update of my son’s truck. It’s been running for 5 months with no issues. Did the exhaust and have new stereo system to install . No check engine light , No ABS light,  all systems working as intended. Solved valve cover gasket leak by reinstalling factory covers , chrome ones were lil deformed and never seated properly . Trying to add video but won’t allow me to , anyone with advice on how this is done ??

Were the chrome ones ... RPC brand? I helped a neighbor kid with his 440 engine, and his new covers were slightly deformed, too. They look like yours.
