Full disclosure: 20 minutes before pulling the trigger LPJR was snoring like an angry bull. I said screw it, I'm going to keep hunting.

The plan was is if one came in he was shooting, if two came in we both would shoot. Well, 3 came in together and we shot so well in tandem that he didn't even know I shot. Right before he called the shot mine turned and went into a full strut. I knew where the head was and shot right through the tail fan. It should be on the video. Both birds dropped with one shot at about 8 yards

That was a tight shot. Definitely threaded the needle on that one. Great morning. Sleeping in tomorrow and going in a bit later

***What a hunt***

Opening Day 2022 was one for the books. @Bucndoe and I gave it hell getting in the woods long before the sky began to crack. Heard ZERO gobbles from the roost but did hear 1 gobbler approximately 300 yards away. We tried to get him to come our way to no avail. He literally gobbled in the same spot for most of the early part of the morning.

Headed to state land and did some running and gunning with zero answers. Headed back to my farm where we were in my blind in the morning and @Bucndoeconvinced me to give it another shot.

Mind you, I am usually back in bed at @ 1030 hours because I have work tonight. Decided to get back into the blind and gave some calls. The same gobbler was cranking yet again from his same position and was not moving.

SUPPOSEDLY someone was cutting wood and out like a light just before the following situation occurred......

At @ 1100 hours, we heard a gobble from over 600 yards away. I said to Bill there is no way they are responding to our calls at that distance, but as soon as we called he answered back. We were going to get out and cut the distance between us, but decided to stay put and let him come to us. At one point the bird was now less than 100 yards from us and coming. When the bird was @75 yards behind us, we realized there was now more than 1 as we heard multiple gobbles.

I activated my head mount HD camera and waited. After what seemed like forever, I could see a bright red head in the blind's door that was slightly cracked open. It was at 10 yards away and coming to the decoy. Within seconds, 3 turkeys were literally within 12 yards of us.

Before seeing any birds this morning, we discussed a possible double shot situation, as my son and I have done several times in the past. Any bird that was on our left was his and the bird on the right was mine. We discussed when we had clear shots I would whisper 1,2, not 3 but squeeze of the shot on "3".

When the time was right I counted and BOOOOOOM! It sounded like just 1 shot and I didn't realize that Bill shot until I saw two birds flopping...Bill will describe what happened but just as we counted his bird turned facing away from him. He made a perfect Godfather style shot directly through the tail into the head dropping the bird with zero hesitation.

High fives were flying and I checked the time and it was now 1130 hours.

Both birds were jakes and were both good size. Mine was 18 pounds and Bill's was 17 pounds. Both had 4" beards.

Was just an awesome time in the woods to kick off A week. Took lots of pics added below.

Will post up the HD video when able to download it.
