Squirrels ?

Where are all the squirrels? Normally there are squirrels everywhere but so far they are almost nonexistent.

in a normal year you can can 10-15 at a time under the feeder, this year if I see one I. The distance it’s a lot. It’s not only one spot. I hunt Somerset and Warren county and it’s the same in both. 
 

Anyone else?

Lack of nuts last year for them to eat through the winter many died .

I have seen about a dozen squirrels in all the spots I hunt all season .

used to see that many an hour .

same both in NJ and PA

I was wondering if EHD hit them too until about a month ago. I put out some corn in front of my camera and they came out of the woodwork since. As many as eight at a time on the corn and others around the area.

Yeah even the property I hunt is 20 acres of oak trees last year you see a lot of squirrels this year you don't even see a handful of them yeah last year I had Harley no nuts

That's surprising with the amount of bait in the woods...lmao You would think that would get them through the winter

Remember all the squirrels dead on the streets and highways last year ?  Lack of mast last year had them traveling to look for food and they were splattered all over the roads .

The one property I next in Oxford is the complete opposite. They are actually spooking the deer there was so many last Wednesday. Seen a bunch of deer. And when they started to get close the squirrels would make them nervous. I have never seen this many squirrels in one spot at one time.

I also have tons of black walnuts, beach nuts, acorns and corn. But no squirrels. And I run my corn feeders all year.

I think 3 ft of snow for a month did them in..
Even if they had buts buried, seems impossible to get to then. Quite honestly I find it remarkable anything could live outdoors in that.. amazing

We won’t see their numbers rebound significantly until after next fall. The red oaks, for example, are loaded up for a heavy fall ‘22 drop. Everything we see now is based on a lack of mast the last two years.

come sit by my feeder , i have a trail camera picture with 8 in on. somewhere i have a picture with 8 but you get the ideae picture
