Does anyone know why F&G wait so long to release the digest?  I have hunted in several other states and theirs is out 4 months before the hunting season begins.

Welcome to NJ where nothing  quite makes sense.

 

I used to ask the same question but I just deal with it. If you have been hunting for a number of years you pretty much know what the dates are going to be. Doubt we are getting any surprise curveballs.

Do those other states also go through a publisher and have same methods of setting regulations, season dates? Could be a factor. But what's big deal? Not much changes year to year...

Usually it's online now.  I haven't checked yet.  Digest is always late.    At least we haven't had to wait until after x-mas for the licenses like we did in the past.

They posted opening day dates. Early zones is Sept 8th. All I need to know.

It always seems to have errors too.  Last year didnt it have muzzy days wrong in some zones?

Murphy has to run some dates past the illegals hierarchy first so they can add the illegals free hunting days to the digest.

Funny you mention this. I had to email DFW a couple days ago confirming crow season starts this Monday because I didn't have the digest to confirm. I said. "There's no digest yet, so I can't confirm with it; you do have the migratory bird info out, but it says it isn't finalized."

I got an answer back - he confirmed the date but then said, "The Digest will not be available until later this month, unfortunately. "

Doesn't sound like they are happy about the delay either.

(BTW, I have to say, I may not like all the answers, but DFW always answers my emails, sometimes within an hour, but usually by end of same day - quick turnaround that I appreciate)
