Not if you don’t hunt past 20 yards.

Want to be the best shot at 20 yards you practice at 60.

then everything under 40 is a chip shot .

you learn everything your actually doing wrong and can correct it.

I happen to agree and my range has targets out to 100 yards. But that happens to be our opinion. If you shoot all the time at 20 yards and never take a shot further, it also becomes second nature. Not everyone has 60 yards available for practice and not everyone needs it. Be proficient at your hunting distance and stick to it. Practice make prefect, or at least good.

You can do many things in error at 20 yards and get away with them .

add in the pressure of a hunt , a rushed shot , a short draw .as well as just simple shot follow through .

you aren’t going to learn that at 20 yards , your not going to make good shot sequence at 20 yards and see the same things you can see at 40-60 yards or more .

.

I would bet 95% of the deer wounded are shot under 20 yards .

and if it was truelly automatic , think about how hard it is to pull a shot at 20 yards off 8 inches or more .

that’s some huge mistakes in the shot sequence .

I would bet it's from longer shots, rushed shots with bad angles, buck fever shakes, not a clear shot, hail mary, shooting each arrow once into a paper plate a week before the season and calling it good enough. Or all of the above.
