2020 Garden thread

the last couple days the garden has made a great jump start. Anyone else's garden make a big jump?

Not mine. Slow growth so far. But when it kicks in it seems to grow a few inches every day. But haven't seen a big jump yet.

I've seen some increases in plant growth but nothing significant.  I think with this rain we got and warmer temps coming this week they will pop in the next week or two.

You guys are way out ahead of us . We started most of our stuff in the greenhouse and haven’t even tossed them in the ground yet . I think this week that will change.  We do have 1500 carrots and around 100 potato in the ground , as well as a bunch of greens and little odds and ends we started on the deck and to be honest they will probably stay there . We’ve already harvested some spinach and a ton of basil . Lots of great looking gardens ! No pictures really , just from the day we planted the carrots and covered until they sprouted .

Thats a lot of carrots. Do they gro good for you and how big do they get?

Have been picking 1 or 2 quarts of strawberries a day for several days now. Have 9 quarts so far this year and the family is going through them as fast as I can pick them. Might not be able to freeze many this year but I should get a few burst of multi quart days so I might sneak a few in the freezer.

Also cut some butter crunch lettuce, curly kale and premier kale today.

Our first time trying them . I added a bunch of sand and manure to the soil to get it to loosen up a little , this soil here is almost like clay . I’ll report back once we harvest how it goes .

This fella from Nature Is always Right has some good info on soil science, worm castings, and worm teas.....he may even be spraying his teas on his eyebrows!!

I'm guna make that worm system....and hope to get into worm tea science!!

Got the school garden doing good, sucks it’s my first year taking over and the covid has the kids out of school they were enjoying it. My kids do enjoy helping though.

I had to relocate 3 ground hogs this week they were eating my lettuce and making a mess.

Ah......Jihadist G-hawgs!!!

It was like Caddy Shack over here too for a bunch of years....

I have since developed a G-hawg excluder fence.....basically 90 degree lips of fence at both top n bottoms of fence. 

Are they going under...or. ...over your existing fence??

No major issues w brushy tails, Alvin, Simon, or Theodore.....beagle n setter keep their heads on a swivel for them.

Never had a problem with them in the garden
