2020 Garden thread

Recommended Posts

My garden is way behind. Got a late start, and the stuff I put in was stalled, then some of it died so I had to start more peppers, tomatoes and egg plant from seed, so I have some plants a foot tall and some 2 inches tall.

Lettuce, kale, beets and chard look good, string beans look good, strawberries are done but everything else is late.

Beautiful garden, looks like you tend it "old school", bet it does great. Is this central near 130 or south?

If that's for me, south west Jersey, and thanks.

This is where I usually am this time of year. Last year, June 4

Just looked like Allentown soil to me. My dream garden where I could really use a tractor, with beautiful soil. Nice place

It's pretty loamy soil, drains very well, sometimes too well and gets dusty after 5 days with no rain. I compost grass clippings and a bunch of other stuff for a year in the back and each spring, put some of the compost in the hole in the plants, or seeds. I have a branch off my lawn sprinklers run out to a hose bib in the garden so there is water out there and I really have to keep up with the water, but it's easy as I have  a good system by now.

You mean a tractor like this one? :)

I have an old Ford 3800 with a bucket that I brought to my little lot when I sold my place, but I would have already replaced it with one like yours if I had that property. Nothing like well drained soil and your plants show it. Great looking yard, but I'm to old to look or move to something now. Good luck with your impressive garden.

Thanks all.

This was my stay at home project. Over the last 3 weeks or so I poured 6 yards of concrete, moved 15 ton of 3/4 driveway stone, 3 tons of river rock, 5 yards of top soil, 3 yards of mulch, 2 tons of crushed red stone, a bunch of pavers and planted all kinds of stuff. I have my herbs up in these beds and pots: parsley, basil, Italian oregano, Greek oregano, sweet mint, rosemary, thyme, and sage.

My tomato and pepper garden is doing well, melon patch needs to pick up some. I was watching you-tube videos last night on pruning tomato and pepper plants, I will say, there's a lot I didn't know about. Like pruning out the suckers, I always thought suckers were just the little  growths between the sun leaves and the stalk. They are, but I didn't realize that they grow and produce fruit as well, but your still supposed to cut them out even if they have flowers.
