410 shotguns...?

Any one on W&W use a 410 for birds... ? I find alot of 410 shells in the field bird hunting, just wondering how they reach out.

If so what gun, make model?

Have had several 410's over the years when running hounds for rabbits never cared to use them for birds, used my 20 ga sxs for them. One of the 410 I liked the most was the Browning BPS model because it had choke tubes

I shot a .410 for years.  3" full choke

I kelled many fabbits squirrels and pheasant with it.  Single shot.

Not that I bird hunt much- but whenever I small game or bird hunt I carry a Remington 870 wingmaster .410

It does the job.

I used a Savage Stevens .410 double on bunnies for years.

Sometimes I use my.410 Stevens 555 enhanced O/U using 4 and 6 shot for pheasants but they have to be close, great for smaller birds like chukar quail and woodcock

I use a nice little sxs with 3" #6's and I have killed a ton of pheasants and chuckers, but I don't leave any empties in the field.

410 is fine for birds at close range by someone who is a good shot. I own two and love them for bunnies which are easy to kill, for birds i opt for the 28 gauge

I think 410 is light for birds. Maybe your finding spent 410 shells from other small game hunting. Like squirrel or rabbit. I can't complain with my 20 gauge. Great shotgun and plenty enough for birds.

Unless you're a good shot I think the 410 isn't ideal for a big bird like a pheasant. Obviously it can do it but many other options. 

With all that said even when my kids carry their 20ga guns I'll carry a 410 single shot. I Rarely pull the trigger , it takes me back to when I was a kid.  Much simpler times.  We killed a few squirrels this fall with the 410. We didn't save the empties.

I have killed pheasants with 410 but prefer 20 for them..  when I go for quail I will bring it planned on going this year but didn't get there..  I will next year..  I only have s bolt 410.  If I get a pump id be more inclined to use it more

I have a Remington 870 .410 I use for pheasant when hunting over a dog on stocked club property, but I prefer my Mossberg 28 guage.
