I know your little engineer mind is working in overdrive overthinking this one. A 30 caliber bullet is .308. But is a 7.62 legal to shoot there?  :hmmmer:

I know very little about guns but if 7.62 is in mm then no if the limit is 0.30 dia. If the limit is 0.308 dia., then yes :happywave:

It's all about land-to-land bore diameter

Quote

Caliber: In Firearms, the diameter of the bore measured from land to land, usually expressed in hundredths of an inch (.22 cal) or in millimeters (9mm). In ammunition, a naming system that indicates cartridge dimensions as well as bore diameters, and can be the same as the Firearm caliber.

The firearm itself is .30 caliber land-to-land bore diameter and capable of firing .30 caliber bullets of which are .308" diameter.  Similarly 7.62mm is the metric measurement for the land-to-land bore diameter of the firearm which also fire bullets that are .308" diameter.

X = .30"
