Advice on Atlantic City

Advice on going to Atlantic City?.... don't step foot in that place at night unless you are armed...

Just kidding, sorta. I live 15 mins away, I go there a few times a month usually, we usually visit friends that work at Hooters in Tropicana and go to Mountain Bar in Ballys. The mountain bar is a cool experience, always have a band playing on weekends, a mechanical bull and the atmosphere is great but it's mostly younger kids, 21-25 that go there. Honestly I wouldn't walk the boardwalk at night or too far down the streets. A few of my buddies have been robbed or tried to be robbed on the boardwalk, walking down the streets at night, you will have guys trying to sell you drugs or begging for money. It's Not bad during the day but at night, park in the parking garage and stay in the casinos. There are some real bad parts of town. If you are looking for a show, sit in your car at any convenience store off of pacific Ave at 2am and you will see everything from prositutes to tweakers crawling around the sidewalk to drug deals gone bad. Personally I would hit ac with the family during the day then go to oc boardwalk 15 mins away at night, oc is a totally different town than ac and even wildwood has gotten pretty bad

Oh and a few more things, there are some good restaurants inside Tropicana, carmines is one of them. The golden nugget and harrahs over by brigantine are in a way nicer part of town but the golden nugget is pretty boring, mostly for old gamblers. Bass pro isn't anything special, but the Walk is good shopping for the wife. Vegabond off of rt322 has the best burgers around. AC is a cool experience but if your looking for the real deal, Vegas blows ac out of the water. I went there this past spring and was blown away by how different it is and how much more ac could be successful if they did just a few things vegas does, start by tearing all the section 8 housing down and clean up the town

Yep, Wildwood isn't very family friendly either. Wildwood and AC are the more trashy parts of the Shore. OC and Cape May are better spots, and Sea Isle is a party town for Shoobies, good place to have a few drinks, or more than a few, and get in a bar fight.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation UNDER GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I really don't understand the negative comments. The beach and boardwalk by the Tropicana are really nice. The other side of the boardwalk, a few miles down, still have some run down looking junk shops, only "negative" thing I can say. The restaurants, shows, arcades, stores, historic restaurants from the time of boardwalk empire. Salt water tafy factory tour, ect. The boardwalk at night has multi media light shows. People just like to say negative things that are not true. Yes, it was a dump 30 years ago.

I agree 100%. I have been going to AC for years, at least a few times a month. Yes, there are nasty parts of town, and it gets a bit interesting at night.. but there's still plenty to do, and see and still be safe. Stick to the main parts of town, the casinos, the boardwalk, the outlets, etc and you'll be fine. You will see plenty of families with small kids on the boardwalk, the beach, etc. Enjoy.

Man you go to wildwood in august?Screw that.I live 2 minutes from there and avoid it at all cost this time of year.I just had to go to the bank over there. Its like a constant white trash convention all summer long.If you have fun that's all that matters though.

All good info here. Stay off the boardwalks at night. The meth head zombies come out. If you out there stay in larger groups. When we go there for a show or concert we tend to stay at Tropicana or borgata. They have everything you would need.

I've only been to Atlantic City one time in my life and that was 50 years ago. My high school sweetheart and I went on a bus with a bunch of other school kids. I remember the big draw was the Steel Pier where we witnessed the Diving Horse, had caricatures done by some amazing artists, went down on the diving bell, and played pinball in the biggest pinball arcade I ever saw. The Steel Pier Show featured the The Box Tops whose played their hit "The Letter" and a few other songs on a short set for TV. An early evening movie had us watching The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming in the theater. Shortly after the Golddiggers from the Dean Martin Show and  a couple other stage acts followed. We then went looking for something to eat, but only had a few dollars left. Maybe enough for the Gino's on the boardwalk at that time. We were not having that as they were not very good as experienced by the one at home. We walked into the city where we found a little sidewalk sub shop and shared one of the best sandwiches I could ever remember prepared by a very nice and friendly black couple who treated us like royalty. It was a long day and the bus breaking down on the way home made it a bit longer.

I know this doesn't answer any of your question, but my best advice would be to just go see for yourself and form your own opinions. You never know what memories you might make. I'm going back down there one of these days.

You should stop right there and leave well enough alone. That's like saying I never took a 95mph fastball to the nuts and I want to experience it...

Yep, just spit my coffee onto the laptop hahhahahahahhahahahahahaha..

And visit Smokester Rusty!
