Two Porcupines

I have been in and out of New Jersey all my life 72 years and never seen or heard of a Porcupine in NJ. This is new to me.

Just started seeing them randomly the past couple years, people thought I was crazy.

I see them at the Water Gap occasionally.

Seen only one while walking to my stand in the dark, but I get them on my cameras a few times per year

They are cool animals. I heard that they can be a real pain. I believe in pa they shoot tons of them as they chew on sheds a lot

I think they are pronounced pork you pine.

See them very often in ny.   Never saw one on nj

See them time to time hit on 206 near Stokes. I’ve seen a few while hunting.

I’ve been seeing porkies for 30 years in northwest NJ. They are part of the reason fisher are coming back. 
 

BTW, the two porcupines in the photo are making several more or will be soon enough 😄

I thought the same, I goggled it and mating season is over by 3 months
