Take down your feeders

This past weekend was spent scouting turkey locations and almost every place I went, there was still deer feeders hanging in trees or on tripods.

Some of them were real close to some of my best trees to work birds from.

Just a heads up.....look for them while scouting your birds...it can get you jambed up if a c.o. checks on you.

yea that sucks, especially when you drive a hour to public land and go in, in the dark. who the heck knows what is where in there.

A reasonable on site investigation would surely be done and probably not result in any summonses issued

There ought to be a law. All deer feeders must be removed by Sept 1 and reset after June 1......

You guys still have deer feeders left on public land? And they haven't been stolen yet???? I'd like to know where you hunt, sounds like you have a lower-than-normal scumbag-to-hunter ratio.

You would hope so. It's not always the case. I knew a hunter who was summoned because a neighbor had a bird feeder in the backyard 450 feet away. He was found not guilty in municipal court but the state is appealing the case.

Yeah you know some guys keep them out and full into turkey season. Shame some guys hunt that way, That's not turkey hunting.

besides a possible violation in turkey season, its just lazy and what I consider "trash" at this point.  I have even seen many bear bait barrels left at their site currently.  clean up what you've taken into the woods when your finished, its that simple

I wonder if they are abandoned, if you lay them on the ground. Empty and inoperable, would that be ok?

 

Like at what point does removing a leftover feeder go from stealing to garbage removal?

In theory, it would be easy enough to know.  If no seeds/corn is in it and the ground is undisturbed around it, likely a lazy deer hunter that never removed it from the property assuming it's not private property where the owner is OK with that left out or leaves it out him or herself.  If it's got feed in it and the ground is torn up, then maybe an illegal turkey hunter.
