FSOS Fluke Tourney

Fished the FSOS fluke tourney today with Tracey and Jack.

Did ALOT of running around looking for a big fluke to weigh..

Hit a large majority of my best spots, finding many spots totally barren of fish.

Others where we very rarely catch anything but keepers had shorts but few keepers .

Had a few NJ keepers we threw back as we were close to NY waters part of the day.

Ended with just 3 in the box to 5.7 pounds.

needed to have 6.5 to make it into the money.

Still a nice day on the water , decent sunrise.

Boat ran great. seems the engines are settling in nicely.

.

will be out looking for a better body of fish tomorrow..

Unless I decide to run off and try and jig some tuna

At least you are getting the new motors broke in

Just over 20 hours on them now .

I would say if the rings aren't set now they never will be .

If it was just a little flatter would have broke 60  . Was running at 5400 if throttle to spare at 58.

Gas mileage has come up 2/10 since last weekend . But still think I need to go down one pitch .

He may need new engines by the end of the season with all the miles we have to cover to find fish:shock:

Crazy how many areas are good of fish entirely.

Curious to see how bad they claimed we over fished this year.

.even seems amount of sea bass hanging around is slim .

Lack of small bait inshore has me wondering where it all is .

See tons of mature bunker. But no squid, sand eels or small bait anywhere

You should have driven that rocket ship up to Montauk and brought back a double digit fish to take the money.

All the tourneys have limits to where you can run .

Montauk is Way beyond that distance lol

Just got back from Block Island , not much going down there either ... I had 6 throw backs and only a hand full Keepers on the boat , sea bass was plentiful though

There are millions of peanut bunkers in Atlantic Highlands Harbor right now and the back bay waters should be loaded with them as well. Hopefully they will start moving out in the next couple of weeks, that should get the fluke stirring:up:

It was a great sunrise.  Great weather. Great boat man that thing flat out flies while smoothing our the ride. Running through disorganized slop on way out at 40+ and heading back in against a stiff head wind and chop at same speed.  It hit 50 with ease and still wanted more.    If the fluke fishing was as good as the weather and boat ride  we would have had a 3 person limit weighing 90 lbs!

To think we were already set to fish 20 miles from the dock before the sun decided to wake up .
