I think the first pick is of  American Bittern. When surprised their instinct is to freeze in this position, portending to be another twig. Not an easy bird to find

Lunatic, that Bittern is crazy looking. I think I saw a hen pheasant that looked like that at Suicide Flats in Flatbrook WMA this past fall, lol. She couldn't get out of there fast enough..
