Have the same bow that I shot for many years. Hunted out West for elk with with and many other trips. Absolutely loved it and was always Hoyt loyal. Purchased a barely used Bowtech experience last year only because I wanted to try new technology. I have to say it’s night and day from the Hoyt. I’m sure the new Hoyt will be just as smooth and comfortable as the bowtech but either way it’s night and day from the old bows.

Ive shot the following bows for both hunting and competition:

Hoyt, prime, bowtech, Mathews,Oneida, pse, Pearson, ...

Putting the list in my personal preference order:

Bowtech is now #1. It is the easiest bow to tune, shoots like a dream, has both a performance setting and a comfort setting, has the smoothest draw cycle....i could go on and on. My current 3D set up is a Revolt X.

Mathews is #2. I have a triax for hunting and agree with JH that it feels like a longer ata bow because of the HUGE cams. I also have a TRX 38 for field target. Crazy accurate. Quiet and smooth.

PSE #3. They are making really great performance bows at reasonable prices.

Hoyt #4 . Never liked the draw cycle on any of their bows. Always felt harsh and always were loud with lots of hand shock.

Prime #5. Used to be my favorite, but the last 2 i bought this year both were lemons. They are having serious quality control issues coming from the factory. Sold and traded both bows after about a month.

like everyone has said, go and give them a test drive....but i would stay away from Heritage Guild, no real techs there, Targeteers wont let you try the bows so that’s a bit of an issue, and strictly archery has gone way down hill.

its worth the time to call around and see what’s left in stock and who will let you shot before you buy.

i recommend Woodbridge Arms and Archery.  Dominic is the best in the business.

I can only speak about #1 and #4 and I agree 100%. Loved my Hoyt but on release I couldn’t take the shock in my shoulder anymore. My bowtech does not do that at all.

Head to Bob and AJs. Test their bows.

Elite

Mathews

Prime

Bow tech

In stock.

Anything ordered may take some time.

You can shoot the bows there and they will spend time with you discussing the set up.

BUT know come Nov. The companies usually start showing their new line ups.

i could get it tuned, inspected, and new strings. then use the money for new arrow rest and sight. i dont know. would save me hundreds. but the bows nowadays have to be way better then mine now. probably time to retire it and hang it up with the rest of my taxidermy.

Just a thought... if you found out all of your  personal specs

draw length, preferred weight, preferred ata , draw cycle , etc...

you can get some amazing deals on archery talk once you become a regular member. I support local shops 100% , but i also like my money ! Most guys on there buy a brand new bow a year and then sell it as soon as the next years model is out.

Ex. My Mathews trx 38 is $1800 new. I bought mine from a guy on AT who needed the newest model , and paid $900 ! The bow was mint !

I don’t recommend buying anything without doing some homework first, but since your current bow is 100 years old... a used bow that’s only a year or two old would still be a huge step up in technology.

let me know if you want any help going in this direction.
