Orange Hat Requirements

Recommended Posts

The only time I had a hard time was "sunrise" shooting. I used where I was based off the actual sunrise not the trenton chart which was 3 minutes off. Digest does not explicitly say it has to be trenton chart. However, the law says that "all times are based off trenton time"- The good thing for me was I showed the email from Senior official at fish and wildlife that said "you can use your local time"

The FW Council is appointed by Murphy.

They are changing the digest.

Last month they denied the reinstatement of fishing/hunting privileges to a guy who failed to display his fishing license while fishing.

To the guy who failed display fishing license and what other violations?

No logos on hats, must be solid

No orange for turkey hunting

No baiting for turkeys

Read the disclaimer in the Justia link that someone provided. Their information isn't always accurate or up to date. Even with that disclaimer people will stomp their feet on the floor like an imp and swear they are correct and know what they are talking about.

I stand corrected I found this :

Exceptions: the hunter orange law does not apply to waterfowl, crow, wild turkey, coyote/fox (during the special permit season, Small Game Regulations), woodchuck nor bowhunters except a bowhunter using a deer decoy must wear hunter orange, as above, while transporting a decoy into or out of the woods. During the Six-day Firearm Season, it is recommended that bowhunters wear hunter orange.

BTW: that 23:4-13.1 statute is the small game orange statute. It is correct that hunting fox and yote under the small game statutes requires orange. Says so in the digest, too - page 27 and 54. It is only while hunting fox and yote under the rules of the special predator season permit that orange is not required.

As for turkey, the NJ Admin Code addresses this

Quote

N.J.A.C. § 7:25-5.7 Wild turkey (Meleagris gallapavo)

(e)  The methods and restrictions for wild turkey hunting are as follows:

9.  Fluorescent hunters orange is not required on outer clothing for turkey hunting.

There is similar verbiage for the special predator permit season in the admin code, too (so don't forget to look up the admin codes when trying to decipher the game laws).
