There are significantly less bears running around thanks to several very successful hunts.  

 

Well, that sure is going to change soon.

You guys didn't get them all....  These cubs were tiny this past spring like 25lbs or less, now they are nearly as big as the small sow mother.

^^^^ actually don't think that is their mom in the picture, they picked up another orphan sibling....  I have separate pic of the mother...  She probably abandoned them by now.

Bears were very rare in NJ. most were visitors from PA. Along the Delaware Sussex County  In the 50s during 6 day season if you encountered a Bear you could shoot it maybe 1 or 2 were ever reported.  Saying near Extinction is not far from any truth. but a stretch. That regulation ended and the Bear population began to grow.  

I saw one of those killed during that time in Walpack a very small CUB the mighty hunter was proud but turned my stomach.

Was alot of natural food on the ground during the bow season.

Bears werent hitting the baits as hard as last year .

In the 70's I stopped in a bar for lunch just before the Layton Inn and they had a bear head mounted on the wall , looked to be a cub.

Been busy this week.  Some drives on Friday around the farms produced three deer, two bears, and two coyotes.  Two other bears got thru and at least two on my bait.  Seed stock for the next 4-8 years as we are prolly done for the season.
