No casings , just like 99% of hot dogs sold today .

Hot dogs are emulsified into a liquid, stuffed into the plastic casing and boiled. Once they've been boiled they take the shape of the casing and it can be removed.

Not very appetizing process. I don’t eat hotdogs. It’s one of those things that could be clean but provides an irresistible hiding place for  scraps you would not eat otherwise.

No different than so many other processed meats 

sausage and kielbasa probably have  the worst as it blends in 

hot dogs that kind of stuff will stand out more

For sure with some products. 
Good sausage and kielbasa is made from pork shoulder, no scrap added and you can see if they use garbage, . So is pork roll. 
Beef and pork  scraps, trimmings end up in ground meat/burgers. 
You can hide anything you want in hot dogs, and they do”  because of the process. If you like the taste and you have reputable butcher make it for you then you are good, otherwise it will not kill you but you really don’t know what you are eating. To each his own, we all consume worse things than store bought hot dogs

Not for me then I’m fussy about hot dogs. Gotta have the snap when biting down.  Shickhouse and windmill are my favorites wind mills are made by sabretts black bear is another good dog

My Wife's Uncle saw hot dogs being made commercially 50 years ago. He has not eaten any since.

Well, I'll eat a "good" hot dog. Thumann's, Boars Head, etc. No Ball Park or Hygrade franks for me. Whatever that's worth. If it costs $2.00 for a package, I can't imagine what's in there.
