Look at the head - pale blue. That's what I usually look at first.

The head's a little hairy too, like the upper lip of my Italian grandma  

The colors of the feathers on the main part of the body are typically not as dark on a female, too.

Oh, and yeah, they are typically smaller in size. Also, I think the feathers come up a little further on the neck when compared to the boys.
