Dead Pheasants

Seems to be abnormal number of pheasants killed by owls this year at Colliers Mills, find a few each time I go out, always wondered what does the owl do with the head of the pheasant? eat it? take it to its nest, have its own trophy room? you say?

Deer hunting years ago . found a dead turkey with no head.

Since i started pheasant last year everytime i've gone except this morning we/i find 1 to 3 headless/murdered birds.

By murdered i mean the bird is torn apart and a pile of feathers with some bones all in 1 spot.

That's the work of a Fox.

Freshly killed pheasant with their heads eaten are great. You don't have to worry about the pellets when you eat them.

I see very little of that happening at Assunpink. The difference is The Pink has loads of heavy cover to support the birds while the Mill, between the woods and the fields has significantly less.
