Unwritten Rules for a Duck Hunter

• Never return to a place that you were invited to as a guest.

•Never leave the blind without a gun.

•Never walk behind a blow-down.
•NEVER be late on an invite

•Never shoot until you're told.

•Not everyone loves your dog like you do.

•You aren't invisible.  Sit down.
•Don't ask someone how many ducks they kill.

•Loose lips sink ships
•You aren't Tom Knapp.  Don't be that guy that claims every duck.

•Don't dick around at the boat ramp.  Get ready before backing down the ramp.  When ready, dump your boat, park your truck, and get out of the way.

•A duck call is meant to be used as a tool, not a noise maker.

•Respect your fellow hunters.  Never know when you may need them.

•Slow down, it is not a race.

•Get your head down and lead properly.  You never know when you're firing your last shot.  Make it count.

Problem I have had. Bring a friend s guest. Next weekend him and two of his buddies show up. I see that as a scumbag move.

I see that as an err in judgement in who you brought. Make sure you disinclude him forever.  We all learn the hard way from exactly that scenario.
Lesson learned the hard way. I felt bad for the kid at the time. Now A grown man and still trying to push me out.

The worst is the bowhunters that hunt the woods where you duck hunt, then turn into duck hunters when they see you’re successful and you find them sitting in your blind the following weeks. So you move down river to only find they’re sky busters

yup. everyone is trying to hunt in the most populated and congested state in the country. its like 6 football teams trying to play the same field in the same day in the same game.

one guy is trying to hunt this, another guy is trying to hunt that.

Un fortunately there are a lot of guides that will charge you big money to hunt public land. They are the ones that promote spot burning. They invite everyone. My thought is that if you're going to guide, then have some leases for your clients on. By doing that, you can school the rookie and then they can find their own spots on their own. I will actually tell people where to go. It's public land. If you have been hunting an area for any amount of time, you always have plan B, C, D if your A spot is occupied. Any waterway is fair game to all.
