Bear Recipes Please . . .

Ms Grit

Recommended Posts

Please share some of your favorite bear recipes.  Although my bear is quartered and in my freezer awaiting the return of my butcher, I am anxious to start some cooking.  I was disappointed that the Division didn't hand out recipe books like they have in the past as I would have preferred that over the patch.

Your going to need quite a few good recipies to use up all that meat ms grit.

I plan on sharing some with my friends if they don't get bears themselves.

Bear rouladen is good. Since you have an older bear, the longer cooking time should help tenderize the meat. I used a recipe similar to this. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/25194/german-rouladen/

I've only ever cooked bear a couple times, but I think slow is the way to go. Look up different crockpot recipes. Ragu, pulled pork(bear), maybe even chili... things like that make bear meat good! One recipe that I've made and eaten is simple.. I did it with a beef but you could try it with a bear roast. In a crockpot, place sliced onions at the bottom of the crockpot (for flavor, and so the meat doesn't actually sit on the bottom of the pot) and add 1 packet of onion soup mix, 1 full bottle of heinz chili sauce, and 1 full 12oz can or bottle of coca cola. It sounds strange, but it is fantastic!
