Hi everyone.  I'm gonna start off by saying that it's been one heck of a past 5 weeks for me.  I spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica, was only home for 7 days for which I was catching up at work and taking care of all of the company's taxes, doing laundry, re-packing, then off to visit with family in AZ for the past 2 weeks.  I returned home Monday evening with plans of hitting the turkey woods Tuesday morning.  I knew I had signed up for the contest, but haven't been back to check the contest rules since.  Well, I shot a Jake yesterday morning and as I did take a picture of the check in slip, I do not have photo's with a tape measure.  It is only a Jake and I do not believe it will be an issue as others enter the woods and harvest more birds.  The bird has already been cut up for cooking, but I can go put a tape measure on the beard I cut off if necessary.  The spurs, well, they're not even worth it.  It's up to Turkeyboy44 if he decides to accept my entry or not.  I am good with whatever the decision is.

So, I shot this 15 lb Jake yesterday morning. Tried to sweet talk a big Tom in that I could see in the field, but a hen busted me from behind. 90 minutes later I had 4 Jakes cutting into my calls and when they came into my set up, I took the first opportunity to fill my Week A Tag.

15 lbs

4 1/8" Beard

2/8" Spurs

I believe the NWTF Score is 28.25

Congrats Robin, beautiful bird!

Sounds like to have been going crazy, but we are definitely glad to see you are back IN and ON W/W!

Not really going crazy (except for that week I was back)

Lots of fishing. Lots of laughing. Lots of good food.  And LOTS of Margaritas, Bloody Mary's & RumChatas  :drinking:

Oh, and I came back from Arizona with $8 more cash in my pocket than I left with . . . Love those casinos :)

First I'd like to say congratulations to my turkey slaying partner Ms Grit!!!!!   Second I'd like to say I told you guys to hang it up cause we got it in the bag!!!

Took this tom at 1046 this morning.  The morning started with some good gobbling but not many sightings.  Three jakes made their way past me and I decide to play with them a little since they never saw the decoys.  I gave a few calls and within minutes they were on top of them!  They beat my hen and jake decoys for the next two hours... yes TWO HOURS!  They literally stood on top of and drove the stakes into the ground until the bellies of the decoys were on the ground!  (Kudos to Avion-x cause they took a beating and there wasn't a scratch on them and the stakes held up.)  I thought for sure they were gonna snap at least one of the stakes.

Anyway, long story short three jakes hung out forever and gobbled at every noise they heard so I figured, great I got the real deal to do the dirty work.  It got to the point where their constant gobbling was driving me nuts.  Two of the jakes wondered off, but were still in sight as the third remained in full strut and refused to leave the hen decoy that was now sporting the submissive hen pose from the beating she took.  He stayed in full strut for ever and a day with his white head blazing.  To keep things interesting I would give a few clucks and force a gobble or two out of him.  This went on for hours.  Finally out of pure frustration I busted out my glass over slate, made by Redneck, and gave a few yelps.  Much to my suprise I heard a total of four gobbles this time, three of which were very familiar and one that was a good distance off... finally some blood flowing again!  I worked the glass again and a lone hen appeared outta nowhere.  She was gone as quick as she arrived.  Then at a distance I saw movement and thru up my binos.  Instantly, I thought to myself, "Finally a full fan" and that's all I could see, but at this point anything was better than the three stooges that have been standing in front of me for hours.  I worked on that bird for some time and got nothing in return and figured the lone hen had him locked up.  After forty five minutes of working the glass he finally broke strut and I lost sight of him.  Ten minutes later he appeared in an opening about sixty yards away.  Manny, Moe and Jack beat feet outta there and wanted nothing to do with him as he made his way towards them.  Again he broke strut and I contemplated taking the fifty or so yard shot.  He then stretched his head up high like a periscope and I said to myself, " Bad move" cause that's all it took for me to make that final decision to rest my bead mid neck and let it rip.  He rolled over and never so much as flapped a wing after that.

I'm usually a "run and gun" type of turkey hunter, so thanks to the jakes for keeping me occupied enough to hang in there and seal the deal.  LOL  Anyway here's to a great morning in the turkey woods
