He is a good young man and captain:up:

So I hear. Looking forward to the trips. After tuna fishing, live lining for bass is my second favorite type of fishing. I will be fishing with another one of his Captains, as I prefer fishing from a center console

Johnny is a good fisherman ..

I would expect you will have a great trip /

Fish Stix just purchased a 36 yellowfin .

would expect he will do well up there .

Bay is small , all better guys will be in the same area .

Just Sayin'.....only one that called back.

He's hungry, and doing what he should be doing as a captain.  Surprised at the others.  Especially in this economy, you'd think everyone would be all over calls trying to guarantee business.  I'd be surprised if they're all booked up already, and if so, they should have a VM that simply tells you that.  Saves you time/aggravation and saves them their time/reputation.

I agree. Saw Chris bought that boat. I am a big fan of yellowfins. I use fish w Rich when he had his (Mr charters). I fished w Joe in sykk physh often (he doesn't know if he is chartering this year). All I require is a charter that has a center console and is prepared (can throw a net), has hooks, leader, and lures (last resort). Not picky, but have expectations if I am paying for a trip.

And its getting worse with the influx of southern boats

Most of those guys fished the bay for decades before the newer guys even started .

‘everyone used to start in the bay , April thru June , then push outside .

‘But when we found there was a good bite those months outside without pressure we moved south .

sadly the ocean bite is horrible now , RB  bite is as good as it gets .

‘so of course it’s seeing more traffic .

Nick was not the captain. Some fill in. Literally had 2 mojos on boat (not split) and no throw net for bunker. I understand sometimes you have days where the fish aren't biting, but at least be prepared. Soured me for sure. Supposedly the boat was stolen a few years ago.

I will let my buddy, Bob,  know. He sometimes mates for Nick when he goes out to the canyon. Bob also has his Captains license and can fish with the best of them. I don't fish so it's mostly Greek to me.

To be expected .

prior planning is everything .

I am surprised Derek didn’t call you back .

HE is usually very quick to return calls .

IF I personally was paying to fish , it would be Derek or Johnny .

BOTH catch thousands of bass a year .

.with a fast center console , they can always get to the fish quickly , as you know all too well .

‘many times the bite doesn’t last an entire trip .and need to be there when they want to chew

VA destroyed the fishery almost to the point of collapse .

looked like positive movement seeing all the larger fish being released .

seems many more fish were caught down there this winter .

REALLY hope to see it come back strong .

used to be bass under every school of bunker and boats could spread further apart

I wanted (and did) book four striper trips recently. I have a few buddies with boats but didn't want to depend on going with them and it is just easier to book a set date and schedule. I am shocked by the poor customer service and business practices of the local charter captains. I contacted FIVE boats. I received a single call back (and booked with this boat). The boats I contacted are all very well known and good producers. Maybe they were full, but email or call saying that..........still cannot believe I only got one call back. In five years I will purchase my own boat. I am still baffled. BTW the boat I booked was probably one of the more pricier boats and maybe that is why they had so many openings. Makes my decision easier for future bookings.

What type of boat will you be getting??

I always loved a CC , I think a 25-26 ft cc would be perfect for NJ fishing,  big enough to go tuna on nice days,

But I will say, my buddy has a 25 ft  parker  pilot cabin , not the fastest,  not the smoothest riding. But man extremely comfortable once you get to your spot, cabin is totally weather proof from the rain, snow, he has 2 fans for circulation and a small heater for cold weather fishing
