Spare Breech Plug/?

BHC

Recommended Posts

I don't carry another breech plug but I do make sure to keep It clean and the 'hole' between the primer and the breech completely clear.

From what I've read, that is about the most common cause of a misfire.

Having said that, a breach plug is pretty light so why not have a spare?

It gives you the option as noted by a poster above to really soak the other in solvent while keeping your muzzleloader 'ever ready'.

I wouldn't bother. Carry tools, especially a pick, & you'll be able to deal with most issues in the field. If you ever have repeated misfires after confirming the flash hole isn't blocked, remove nipple a put a little dry powder in, replace. Works every time. You can scrape a pellet if not carrying powder.
