Well, I guess the positive way to look at it is, even without buying extra chances a first-time out-of-stater's odds are roughly 1 in 500, which is better than PA elk at ~ 1 in 6,400.

I paid 1400 for the last shoulder mount in 2010 and that was a bargain, from what I have heard.  The next one might just go on a nice plaque.

I thought wisdom came with age.  You did a full shoulder mount of your bull and you're going to stick your wife's on a plaque???

I do New Brunswick Canada. my 3rd year and didn't get it. Better chance of drawing a tag and almost 100% guarantee you will get a Moose.

Threw the 2012 numbers provided into Excel, and the magic number is approximately $3,200. 

 

Meaning, if you spend that much money for bonus points, it would be virtually mathematically impossible to not pull an out-of-state moose permit.  That's a lot of money, but when you think how much some of those western elk etc... hunts cost, it's probably not crazy.  If you're a gambler, you could spend 1/2 that, about $1,600 and take your odds down to a coin flip.

Last year we didn't put in for permits only for our bonus points. Glad we did that, drew a bull tag this year! Not bad for only being in 3 years.
