Norman Lear was the creator of this and many other great TV shows. He was a showbiz genius. This is from Wikipedia:

"Lear was known for his political activism and funding of liberal and progressive causes and politicians. In 1980, he founded the advocacy organization People for the American Way to counter the influence of the Christian right in politics, and in the early 2000s, he mounted a tour with a copy of the Declaration of Independence."

Do you really think he was criticizing Dems or making fun of those that do? :hmmmer:

People either laughed at what Archie said or laughed at him. That's why the show had great appeal. There was something for everyone. :whatever:

Carrol O'connor (Archie) himself was a "liberal". This from Wikipedia:

"While O'Connor's personal politics were liberal, he understood the Bunker character and played him not only with bombast and humor but with touches of vulnerability. The show's writing was consistently left of center, but O'Connor, while his character held right-wing views, could also deftly skewer the liberal pieties of the day. "

As I said, Norman Lear was a showbiz genius.
