Thoughts on EAB - combined threads

JH POST EDIT -

I just confirmed with a state biologist contact that this is indeed 100% a rumor.  Please discuss freely EAB and other deer management issues, but you need to wait for the final regs in August.

So, I am reluctant to post rumors, but I saw this on the other site and it looks legit.  Apparently, when F&G said they were considering eliminating EAB, they meant no hunting for bucks at all in Sept. I thought it meant you could hunt for a buck w/o first shooting a doe.

The guy who started the thread on the other site posted a pic of a proposed reg set...not sure where he got it.  I love hunting for bucks in Sept...kind of bummed.

Do you know if that is that the only zones, or is it everywhere.  Only reason I shoot a doe is to be able to hunt a buck in Sept.  I won't hunt until Oct if that is also the case up here.

One guy posted reg set 8 and another reg set 7....my recollection is reg sets 4-8 are the most "permissive"...so if it's for those two; it's probably statewide.

Is this on the Fish and game site? Where did this info come from?

I can't find it on any web site.  But two guys posted the screen shots I posted above from somewhere.

I haven't hunted that long in NJ.  But the way it was explained to me was that EAB was created to get guys to shoot more does.  Your "reward" was to hunt for a buck in Sept.  I guess we have killed enough does so they are now eliminating EAB.  I can't be 100% sure it's true...but you can see two screen shots for two separate reg sets.

Friend of mine went to Montgomery townships hunters safety meeting as he hunts one of their properties.

Someone from the state was there handing out this years Reg Sets.

Earn a Buck is FINALLY GONE!!! September is doe only now.

Early season Gun (before shotgun week) is gone in some regs also.

Here are two reg sheets that he sent me copies of.

Can't wait till they finally release the digest! Never understood why it takes so long to come out.

The funny thing is I've hunted in NJ only 3 seasons.  I've hunted EAB each year.  Each year, I've gotten my doe and not gotten a buck.  Had bucks walk by before I got my doe.  Every year, I keep telling myself to just wait till October.  Looks like F&G made the decision for me....

It isn't that we shot enough does, if that was the case they would shut down Sept and put restrictions on does.

I think the state figured out what hunters have been saying all along but the state won't admit we were right.

EAB was hurting the Buck population. More button bucks are shot during earn a Buck never getting a chance to grow and not helping reduce the doe population.

Buttons are more curious and typically they first deer to come out and or hit a bait pile. So what happens they get shot to earn the right to shoot a buck. Number of bucks sightings are down does numbers are still HIGH, the program wasn't working!

In MY OPINION!!!

Not to mention the amount of bucks that must have been shot before a doe, or reporting a doe that was never shot.  That must be hard to police, and they were probably wasting a lot of time checking for violators.

OK.  I really never know the reasons why these guys do the things they do.  I'm not a biologist...I just hunt.  If you say that's the reason, I'm not going to argue with you.
