first, he used the wrong bill #

scr175 was last years bill that was never called to vote.

that "committee" is Ray's group, they will pass anything the boss puts up.

we have to contact the senators and stop it when, and if it hits the floor for a vote.

FWIW, this is what I just received back...only response I got:

Dear Matthew:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding SCR-11.  This bill would determine that the Fish and Game Council’s proposal to allow the use of enclosed foothold traps is inconsistent with the plain language and legislative intent of the 1984 law banning animal traps of the steel-jaw leghold type.

On January 12, 2016, SCR-11 was referred to the Senate Environment and Energy Committee.  While I am not a member of this committee, I will certainly keep your comments in mind should this bill come before us on the Senate floor for a final vote.  In the meantime, you may wish to write to the chair of this committee to voice your views.  His address is as follows:

            The Honorable Bob Smith

            216 Stelton Road, Suite E-5

            Piscataway, New Jersey  08854

            sensmith@njleg.org

For further information, you may track this bill or any legislation of interest to you by logging onto the New Jersey Legislative website at www.njleg.state.nj.us or by calling the Office of Legislative Services toll-free at 1-800-792-8630.  Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding this important bill. Your input is always welcomed and considered.

Sincerely yours,

Senator Joe Pennacchio

Assistant Republican Leader

To get things in prospective. The law suit was ruled that the DP trap is not a Steel jawed leg hold and that the Fish and Wildlife council has the authority to adopt this trap as a replacement for the Leg hold. That is good but the war is still not over. The senate can still act on the SCR11 and place the DP trap into the banned category. We need to keep telling the Senate committee and the senate floor in a respectful way that we want them to look at science and facts on the DP trap. To seek real information and council on the trap from the authorities like Fish and Wildlife, BMP’s for examples. To look at the fact that with just one season the DP trap increased the raccoon take by 5000 raccoons, with low fur prices, and NO negative impact on pets, livestock or humans. This is important for NJ as we are on the edge of another rabies outbreak. right now, our numbers are back to the late 80's numbers. If we hit the 90's numbers, the pockets of rabies will go state wide again like it did in the 1990. This tool can increase the raccoon catch with more efficiently with less non-targets catches with a higher social acceptance once folks see the trap. We need to show that the DP trap does not cause the damage and animals can be released when set properly. The trap is a for the most part a species-specific trap for raccoons and opossums, Non-targets such as dog will not be caught by the pull system. the DP trap is not a steel jawed foot trap. The trap is the best tool to control the raccoons in the state of NJ with the least amount of negative problems.

We need to stay on facts when writing emails. for some reason phone calls, may not be documented correctly we are advising folks to call but e mails are important. When you email, please BCC the email to njfedtrap@gmail.com so we can have a record of the emails being sent.

I just sent another email to all the senators. One thing I did this time was add a direct picture found in the article on the rabid raccoon attack on the little boy back in January:

http://abc7ny.com/news/raccoon-attacks-6-year-old-boy-on-way-to-school-in-elmwood-park/1175777/

These animal rights activists always post pictures of cute/cuddly animals caught in traps - well, we need to send pictures like this one of a cute and cuddly little kid who was mauled by a rabid animal. That's reality - not the Disney portrayal these people try to push. And the rabies problem is only going to get worse if NJ refuses to allow trappers to do their jobs.
