Give me a high and low

Would have to check recent auctions. Western dogs always do better and get more. I've gotten as high as $55 and as low as $10 in the past.

I asked because I heard you say before “ the wasted resource” and I don’t agree. Is it a resource when the price is a fraction of what it actually costs to get it to the market? Is a discarded squirrel pelt waste of a resource? How about a deer pelt? It’s not a valuable recourse when there is no demand as it is reflected by a price disproportional to the effort.
You really expect people to invest God know how many hrs to get a pelt to the market for $10 or even $50??

I don't expect anyone to do anything. I'm offering another perspective of what time in the woods produces. Every furbearer has a pelt and everything  in the woods is a resource. Value is different to everyone and market conditions dictate alot of that. I personally don't harvest anything I'm not going to eat or use, and I use just about everything off every animal I take.

There are only a handful of trappers I know that are doing it for the money. Some of them arent even trapping because they wont make any money right now. Most know it's a loosing proposition but do it because they enjoy it.

I've skinned dozens of animals for people that hunt them but don't want the pelt so I take it.

My point about wasting a resource is this, ask around someone will most likely take it instead of a non-hunter seeing rot and waste on public land that everyone uses.

Agreed! Worst case someone always wants a fox or yote hide it’s better than leaving it to rot.

I get your point and in fact I hunt the same way, eating almost everything I can. Exceptions are coyotes, foxes and groundhogs. I’ll not eat them and their pelt is not much of recourse since no one wants them, as evident by  the prices. Giving it to someone is also problematic unless this someone lives next door to me. I hunt fox and coyote to protect our valuable recourses and that’s good enough for me

I can agree to disagree
