UPDATE: just installed an aftermarket 46mm cylinder and piston and it seems to be ok for now. We shall see

Did you check your crank seals and intake boot to make sure that you don’t have a air leak?

Seems like replacing pistons is an easy way out.

Find an OEM piston or one of quality construction: not Golf.

A pressure test shows if you have an air leak. The air leak would change your carb tune scoring your piston.

Your oiler may have failed causing excess heat working your saw harder.

32:1 fuel mix, new saw

40:1 every saw

50:1 a Stihl saw that will fail

The Echo Red Armor works well. It is red so you don't straight gas your saw.

Buy a Stihl 500: injected

Or battery saw

You know where I live.

No, not yet for the crank seals. Intake boot was replaced.

First cylinder and piston failed for an unknown reason. I'm leaning towards a lean batch of fuel.

Second failed because of a piece of metal that scored the cylinder wall. Unknown how it got in there.

Third was a used one off Ebay that already had some scoring inside the cylinder.

Fourth was the one I put on today. If this one fails, I will have to try checking the crank seals
