Toilet tank repair PIA

Must have changed 20 tank seals and fillers over the years in a few different homes.

Today I changed out the drain gasket and tank bolts in our shore house.

No different than any other one right ?

F NO. toilet was a Gerber, they need a special gasket that is twice the depth of all normal toilets.

DIDNT know that and had got the typical replacement unit, first flush had a gallon of water on the floor.

Off to the plumbing supply shop to get the correct gasket, and now I HOPE its all good.

I had to replace seal on my toilet last year  and I had to cut  all 4 bolts to get the seat off. Than I realized I needed thicker ring because the flange was set to low in relation to the floor. Yep, another trip to the store. I used to love working on my house, now I hate it all.

Easier to just replace the whole toilet.  I recently took out the old toilet that wouldn't flush right, even after replacing the guts a few times, and put in a kohler with the cylinder flush. Went from water going round and round, to a whoosh and gone.  Can't plug up that sucker.  I've been trying.

Gerbers have to use the OEM gasket -- can't use a universal one from the box stores

I tried to cut and stack 2 universals in there in a pinch at my grandmothers house -- Managed to keep the leak down to just a few drips while flushing

She was 99 then and wanted me to change out the toilet for a new, higher seat model anyway
