Deadeyekev Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Been waiting a long time to do one of these trips. I was lucky enough to get a spot on a 6 pack charter fishing the Nantucket shoals for jumbo fluke on 7/1. Very excited for this trip. Anyone else fish up there? hiking, Silver Belly62, Axiom and 1 other 4
BowhunterNJ Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Nice! Can't wait to see some pics! I've never been but always wanted to try it up there. Hopefully you guys get into some nice ones! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JHbowhunter Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 you will be in GREAT striper waters too, a good lure up there is a 6" brown/silver sluggo on a jig head (looks like sand eel). I was fishing those areas for stripers off Cape Cod charter, and caught a few big fluke on a live eel and a lot of bass on eels and sand eels. Deadeyekev and Zipper 2 Nothing spooks deer more than my stank… 16 3/4” Live Fluke Release Club I shot a big 10pt once….
Zipper Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I once knew a man from Nantucket......... "All men die, not all men really live". WW
Deadeyekev Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 They're still a couple spots available if anyone has any interest pm me for details
hammer4reel Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 just hope for nice slow drifts, when its ripping it can be tough to hold with even a pound of weight. when its fishable to 8 OZ it is pretty incredible the amount of fish there. nice thing is you will be fishing mostly sand shoals, and its very easy on tackle loss
joe987654321 Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I think I'm on the same trip if it is with Capt Jeff. Should be good. I spoke to someone on the "fishing” site who gave me a few pointers for fishing up there. I've tried organizing a charter up there, but could never get 6 guys so l jumped at the opportunity for an Open boat trip. Matt, you should also go
BowhunterNJ Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 What tips did they offer? If I can somehow clear my schedule I can try but it's not looking hopeful lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
joe987654321 Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 What tips did they offer? - Drag bait instead of bucktailing if heavy weight is needed. - Use big strip baits and whole squid if possible. - bring one light and one heavy rod setup. - Chrome fluke balls or weight to 16+ oz if needed. - Don't be afraid to drag bait up there even if you are a hard core bucktailer as more doormats seem to be taken that way. I have high hopes for this trip, but realize much if it is dependent on conditions etc. I'll post a report and pics here. BowhunterNJ 1
BowhunterNJ Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Awesome thanks for sharing! Good luck up there! Any idea how deep they fish up there? Drift speeds? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
joe987654321 Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Awesome thanks for sharing! Good luck up there! Any idea how deep they fish up there? Drift speeds? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I heard depth can vary from 5 to 100 feet in a short distance. Have no idea about drift speeds. I'll provide all the details in a post trip report. There may still be a spot or two available if anybody is interested. BowhunterNJ 1
joe987654321 Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 They started their season off with a bang on Monday. Biggest was 12.4 lbs. Fishing was so good that they had a self imposed size limit of 20" and had easy limits even with their new size limits. Hope it is this good or better on Friday. BowhunterNJ 1
BowhunterNJ Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Nice! Man was just looking at how far it is, about 8+ hrs from me...worth it for some 10lb+ fish!
