NY Trapping Questions

Does anyone go trapping in NY? I have access to about 200 acres that has a beaver pond and small river on it.  The owner wants me to trap some coyotes, but I could trap anything.  I believe there are bobcat there too.

Do you go just for a weekend, and is it productive?

What traps do you set for coyote?  I see snares are illegal.  I was thinking Duke #2 but I would have to buy some.  Also need to get some beaver traps.  Maybe I'll start up there next year as I see the license is $275 too.

Yes. Laying steel in the ground is a totalky different ballgame from hanging loops. Beaver traps are not toys either

You can't possess  a #2 Duke or any similar steel jaw foothold trap in NJ

I would get the footholds sent to my friend, the property owner and leave them there.

How far into NY is this ?

Setting traps for a weekend would be tuff.

Most action happens after the traps sit for two or three days.

If you set them on Saturday and pull them on Sunday. You won't be very productive.

Pre baiting would definitely  help.

About an hour and 15 away

I can stay there too

I’ll probably give it a shot next year
