Lunatic
If you time it right cape may gets coated with them during the migrations. Some trees have so many on them you can not even see any part of the tree Fred Flintstone
Bones
We have gardens of milk weed and butterfly weed for the monarchs, we bring them inside when we find eggs or the ants get them. we do the same for swallowtails too but have parsley growing Fred Flintstone, Njkoren and JFC1

Njkoren
I planted milweed last year along with a lot of nectaring flowers. Today my first chrysalis opened up and i watched my first monarch take flight for the first time. Very cool experience. Fred Flintstone

Bones
Nothing really. we bring in the butterfly eggs once we find them or any caterpillars once we find them. We pick leaves or parsley stems and wash them off before we put them in the containers to get get rid of unwanted insects. Ants have been a big problem this year for us we use borax and powder sugar in small containers with lids but small holes cut in the side to allow ants in, the sugar attracts the ants and the borax kills them. There has been a push by regulators to improve habitat for butterflies, and we are adding swamp milkweed to our seed mix for riparian restorations of wetlands and streams/rivers.
