Controlled Burns On The Iowa Farm

Recommended Posts

Perhaps the best habitat enhancement for all wildlife is fire. Burned 55 acres of native Praire grass to rejuvenate it and 30 acres of Brome CRP to establish an additional Praire Grass restoration. It must be done with all precautions including,  burn plan, fire lanes, water pump equipment,  shovels, and a few buddies willing to assist.  Wind direction is always a factor in the plan of attack.  I love to back fire into the wind for a controlled hot burn. Hard work but very satisfying to get it right!

Tom and John, yep we found sheds, several making a quick walk around,  and a few while and after the burn.  Wish I could devote more time for shed hunting.  We were on a very tight schedule to get back to Nj for work. The brown ones went through our controlled burns.
