I wonder how this ammo would work on deer?

I used to field test ammo for a major ammo manufacture and one time, I had to field test some 12ga slugs. These slugs were designed to basically disintegrate upon impact. The results on deer were devastating. Every deer that I shot, the front shoulder area was wasted because, of bullet fragments and ruined meat. The exit hole most of the time was the size of a soup can. I presented my findings to the field rep. and they discontinued the slug design. The big 9 point that I shot almost 4 years ago, I shot him with one of the left over shells. I forgot that I had a box of them left. The bullet basically blew his left leg off.

Why did you shoot him in the leg?
